Annual Compliance statement of Child Safe Framework

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (NDIS Commission) is committed to fostering a child safe culture that protects and promotes the rights, safety and wellbeing of children and young people. Our regulatory approach is underpinned by human rights principles and supports the delivery of safe, quality and rights-based supports and services for all NDIS participants, including children with disability. We recognise that children and young people may have unique experiences and support needs and are committed to ensuring they are respected, safe, valued and supported in all interactions with the NDIS Commission.

During 2025-26, the NDIS Commission continued to implement and comply with the requirements of the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework (Framework) through our governance, risk management and operational arrangements. As part of this commitment, we completed the annual child safety risk assessment, considering activities that may involve responsibility for, or contact with, children and young people, including complaints handling, compliance activities, and engagement activities.

The assessment identified that most NDIS Commission roles involve no direct contact with children. Where contact occurs, it is generally limited and incidental in nature. Having regard to the likelihood and consequence of harm, and the effectiveness of existing controls and safeguards, the NDIS Commission assessed its overall child safety risk as low. Appropriate governance arrangements, procedures, personnel screening, mandatory reporting arrangements, information-sharing protocols and oversight mechanisms are in place to support the safety and wellbeing of children.

During the reporting period, we continued to strengthen the implementation of the Framework by:

  • undertaking and monitoring its annual child safety risk assessment;
  • completing a child safety maturity self-assessment to identify opportunities for continuous improvement;
  • embedding child safety considerations within relevant governance, risk management and operational processes;
  • providing staff with access to child safety learning and awareness resources, including the Commonwealth Child Safe Framework eLearning module;
  • contributing to whole-of-government child safety initiatives and consultation activities; and
  • continuing to develop and implement child-safe practices tailored to the NDIS Commission's regulatory functions.

We remain committed to continuously strengthening its capability, systems and practices to support a child safe culture and uphold the safety, wellbeing and rights of children.
