NDIS Commission publishes Annual Report highlighting stronger safeguards for participants
Stronger safeguards, tougher regulatory action and major legislative reforms have marked a significant year for the NDIS Commission, according to its 2025-26 Annual Report released today.
The report outlines the Commission's work to strengthen protections for people with disability and improve the quality and safety of NDIS supports as the Scheme continues to grow and evolve.
During the year, new legislative reforms strengthened the Commission's ability to prevent harm, respond to unsafe practices and hold NDIS providers and workers accountable. The Commission also increased its focus on identifying and addressing risks before they impact participants.
Key areas of focus included reducing the inappropriate use of restrictive practices, strengthening oversight of providers and sole traders, addressing serious health and safety concerns, and supporting a capable and skilled disability workforce.
The report highlights a number of significant regulatory outcomes, including a record $2.5 million Federal Court penalty against provider Lifestyle Solutions for breaches of NDIS legislation and reportable incident requirements. The outcome reinforces the Commission's commitment to taking strong action where providers fail to meet their obligations.
The Annual Report also details progress under the Commission's Strategic Roadmap 2025-27, which sets a clear direction for a more proactive, intelligence-led and risk-based approach to regulation. By strengthening its use of data and intelligence, the Commission is improving its ability to identify emerging risks and target regulatory action where it is needed most.
Collaboration remained central to the Commission's work throughout the year. Working alongside people with disability, providers, advocacy organisations and government partners, the Commission continued to strengthen safeguards and promote quality services across the NDIS.
The 2025-26 Annual Report demonstrates the Commission's ongoing commitment to improving participant safety, increasing provider accountability and building confidence in the NDIS. As the Scheme continues to mature, the Commission remains focused on ensuring people with disability can access safe, high-quality supports and services that help them achieve their goals.
