Supported independent living: Unregistered provider
Transition pathway for:
- unregistered NDIS provider
- includes sole traders
- currently delivering supported independent living (SIL)
- applied for registration before 1 July 2026.

Providers can continue to deliver supported independent living (SIL) supports during this process.
1. Awareness
Provider is aware that changes for supported independent living providers and transition arrangements start from 1 July 2026.
2. Preparation
Provider understands their obligations – including mandatory registration and compliance with the new supported independent living Practice Standards – starts from 1 July 2026.
Provider continues to deliver supported independent living.
3. Applies for registration
If the provider has submitted a valid registration application for '0115 Assistance with daily life tasks in a group or shared living arrangement' and other relevant registration groups before 1 July 2026, they will receive a scope of audit.
4. Audit process
The provider engages an Approved Quality Auditor (AQA) and completes a certification audit.
If the audit happened before 1 July 2026
The audit will not have included the new supported independent living Practice Standards.
If the audit happens after 1 July 2026
The audit will include the new supported independent living Practice Standards.
5. Application review
The provider responds to NDIS Commission questions and provides information during the application review, if required.
The provider continues to deliver supported independent living.
6. Registration decision

If the provider is audited before 1 July 2026, they may get conditions of registration that require additional audits.
From 1 July 2026, the NDIS Commission will update relevant registration certificates with a new certificate of registration that includes '0138 Assistance with supported independent living'.
From 1 July 2026, providers must comply with the new supported independent living Practice Standards to remain registered. They will be audited against the new Practice Standards at the next audit after this registration.
