Which job suits you - resources

Explainer video

The Workforce Capability Framework, or simply the framework, describes the attitudes, skills, and knowledge expected of all workers funded under the NDIS. It establishes a shared language of ‘what good looks like’ for participants.

The Self-Assessment Tool for Potential Workers can help people interested in disability support work understand if they are good fit. The tool is online, interactive, and includes real life examples to better understand disability support work and ensure people coming through the job assessment phase have a clear idea of what the work looks like, and what they are best suited to.

Take Abeni for example. She is interested in the career in the disability sector, but it's not sure what to expect, or what qualifications and skills she needs. So she uses the tool to find out more. The tool is focused on her attitudes values and skills, helping her to decide if the work is a good fit

The questions it asks encourages Abeni to reflect on roles that work directly with people with disability. There are three sections to the tool which Abeni navigation through:

  • attitudes and values that ask how strongly she agrees or disagrees with a series of statements

  • potential situations she might face when working in the disability sector, where she can select actions from multiple choice options and how the scenario makes her feel

  • and an invitation to enter information about her lived and work experience that may be relevant.

The results the tool generates are based on Abeni choices and inputs. They provide guidance that is important in assessing whether Abeni would be great for support work. The tool also provides suggestions about what further training she can explore to help her find a job the sector, and how she can apply her current skills to a new role.

Abeni can also use the Career Options Guide to learn more about the variety of roles available and start a plan for building her career in the disability support sector. If you are a provider, try the Self-Assessment Tool for Potential Workers as a tool during the recruitment process. Or if you are interested in working in the sector, give it a try to find out if a career in disability support can suit you. Find the Self-Assessment Tool on our website.
