NDIS Commission welcomes ANAO report

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission has welcomed the release of the ANAO performance audit report into the effectiveness of the Commission’s regulatory functions.

The NDIS Commission has accepted all 10 recommendations made by the ANAO, with action already underway to improve the Commission’s data, systems and tools.

NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commissioner Louise Glanville said the organisation is continuing to mature as a risk-based regulator with a clear focus on upholding the human rights of NDIS participants.

“We are committed to improving our systems and becoming a formidable regulator,” Ms Glanville said.

“The NDIS Commission is undertaking a Data and Regulatory Transformation program that will improve access to reliable data and visibility of the market.

“We are also developing and testing a new organisation-wide risk-based approach to how we prioritise complaints, reportable incidents and other matters.

“This model will ensure that our regulatory efforts are focussed on the most serious matters, enabling faster responses for participants and clearer expectations for providers.”

The ANAO report acknowledged the NDIS Commission does not have oversight of all NDIS providers delivering services in the market, as there is no requirement for all providers to be registered with the Commission.

The NDIS Commission is continuing to work closely with government and other stakeholders on delivering a well-calibrated system of provider registration.
