Changing from PRODA to myID and RAM

The NDIS Commission is changing how we check the identity of providers that use our portals. Strong identity checks help us keep participants, providers and the NDIS safe against scams, fraud and data breaches.

Previously we used Provider Digital Access (PRODA) to authenticate access to NDIS Commission portals. We are now transitioning to using:

  • an Australian Government Digital ID, using the myID app
  • Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM).

NDIS providers, Quality auditors and Government agencies

NDIS Providers, Quality auditors and Government agencies can now start using myID and Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM):

  • myID is the Australian Government’s Digital ID app.
  • RAM is an authorisation service that allows an individual to act on behalf of a provider online when linked with their myID.

PRODA to myID and RAM transition period

You’ll need to start using MyID or RAM during the transition period which:

  • started on 7 December 2025
  • is scheduled to end on 30 September 2026.

We encourage providers to set up myID and RAM now to minimise disruption later.

To start using myID and RAM, follow these instructions to Set up myID and Get authority to act on behalf of a business.

NDIS participants

You can use either PRODA or myID to access our portals if you’re a NDIS participant and:

  • you have a self-managed NDIS plan
  • you engage a plan manager to assist you to manage your NDIS plan
  • you use the Self-managed participants portal to access the NDIS worker screening database.

To start using myID, follow these instructions Set up myID.

Please note this change does not and will not replace NDIS worker screening checks.

Sole traders are seen as both a worker and business when it comes to setting up myID. This means you need to do:

  • the worker task setting up myID with your personal email address
AND
  • the business tasks setting up your business in Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM), authorising your personal myID account to represent your business.

To start using myID and RAM

  1. If you don't already have the myID app, set up myID.
  2. Link your business in Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM). You will do this as the 'Principal authority' of your business.
  3. Authorise your myID account to represent your business by creating an authorisation in RAM.
  4. This will send an email to you that includes an authorisation code that's valid for 7 days.
  5. Accept the authorisation request in RAM. You'll log into RAM using your myID account.

Set up myID

You may already have the myID app if you've had to prove your identity for other government services like Medicare, Centrelink, NDIS provider portal, the Australian Tax Office, or the NDIS Commission applications portal. Your myID is for your personal identity, not your business.

  • If you already have the myID app, you'll use your existing account.
  • If you don't have the myID app, you'll set it up now.

How to set up myID

Next steps for using myID

Get authority to act on behalf of a business

You don't need to complete the following steps if you are:

  • an NDIS participant
  • doing an application in the applications portal
  • logging in to your behaviour support practitioner profile.

Once you've set up myID, you need to be authorised to act on behalf of a business. You'll be authorised for either the business that employs you, or your own business if you're a sole trader.

  • Authorisations are managed in Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM).
  • Before anyone can create authorisations requests, the business needs to be linked in RAM.
  • Some of the steps below can only be completed by the Principal authority.

Principal authority

The principal authority is the person responsible for the business, such as:

The principal authority links the business in RAM. You do this by logging in to RAM and linking your myID account to the businesses Australian business number (ABN).

  • If the business is already linked in RAM, you don't need to repeat this step.
  • If you're not the principal authority, you need to wait until the principal authority has linked the business and sends you a request.

Link your business in RAM

If you’re unable to link the business in RAM, there are other ways you can link your business.

Step 2: Create an authorisation request in RAM

Once the principal authority has linked the business in RAM, they can:

  • authorise other staff to act on behalf of the business
  • authorise themselves to act on behalf of the business (for sole traders)
  • make others an 'authorisation administrator', who can then authorise other staff members.

If you're not the principal authority, you need to wait until the principal authority sends you a request.

Before you create an authorisation request for someone, check if:

  • they have a Digital ID such as myID
  • they have a standard or strong identity strength
  • their full legal name matches the name used to set up myID
  • their current business email address can only be accessed by them – this is where the authorisation request and future notifications are sent.
Note: this address doesn't need to match the email address they used to set up myID.

Tips for creating an authorisation:

  • When you're entering the authorisation details, select 'No' for the Machine credential administrator question as this isn't relevant to the NDIS Commission portals.
  • On the 'Agency access' screen, you need to find 'NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission' by scrolling or typing into the search bar.
  • Once you've chosen 'NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission', click on 'View services' to display more options, then tick the box next to 'NDIS QUALITY AND SAFEGUARDS COMMISSION' from the expanded list.

Create an authorisation in RAM

Once you submit the request, an email is sent to the person you've authorised.

Step 3: Accept an authorisation request

The staff member will receive an authorisation request via email.

  • The authorisation request email contains a code that's used for accepting the authorisation.
  • The request must be accepted or declined within 7 days.
  • If an authorisation code has expired or isn't working, it can be re-issued.

Accept an authorisation in RAM

Some users have reported an issue when trying to log in to a NDIS Commission portal.

  • They try to log on an NDIS Commission Portal before a principal authority has created an authorisation request for them.
  • Then when they're successfully authorised, they try to log in again and get an error:
401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.
  • If this occurs, please clear your browsing history, then log in.

If you’re having trouble setting up your myID account, you can continue to use PRODA to log in to the portal. To log in with PRODA, click the ‘continue with PRODA’ link that appears below the ‘Continue with Digital ID’ button.

The transition period is scheduled to end on 30 September 2026.
