Map of Australia with Western Australia highlighted From 1 December 2020, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission will start managing quality and safeguards in Western Australia.

The Government of Western Australia has announced this deferral of Western Australia’s transition to the NDIS to allow providers to focus on critical support issues for people with disability during the COVID-19 recovery period. 

Until 1 December, your current state or territory requirements for quality and safeguards will continue to apply. The links at the bottom of this page may be helpful.

Provider information session

In October 2020, the NDIS Commission held an introductory provider information session for Western Australia as a live webinar.

At this session, Graeme Head (NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commissioner) introduced and provided an overview of the NDIS Commission’s role and function, outlined the new quality and safeguarding arrangements, and explained how these will affect providers of NDIS funded services and supports in Western Australia from 1 December. He also answered questions raised by attendees.

A further information session with be held later in the year, containing more specific information about provider responsibilities, including registration; behaviour support; and complaints and reportable incidents. More details will be provided soon.

State Director Western Australia

Samantha Jenkinson has been appointed Western Australia State Director. She brings to the role a wealth of experience in the disability sector, including case management, advocacy, research, and executive roles with the WA and Victorian governments and not-for-profit organisations. She also heavily campaigned for the establishment of the NDIS and participated on expert advisory panels with the NDIA. Samantha leaves the role of Executive Director of People with Disabilities WA to take up this role.
